(KFYI News) – The chairman of the Arizona Republican Party had sent a letter to the six Republicans running for governor, asking them to back off on all the negative advertising attacking their opponents.

Robert Graham's letter, dated August 7, says he's receiving "an increasing volume of phone calls, emails and physical letters expressing Republican voter disappointment with the level of negative campaigning."

He goes on to say, "I respectfully request that each of you refrain from any and all personal attacks at the remaining debates and/or forums.  Give the voters and honest and invigorating debate on the issues and stop clouding the race with personal attacks on each other's business dealings, driving records, etc."

Graham tells the candidates that he's worried the party's eventual nominee "will have such high unfavorability ratings that we will have a tough time winning" the November election.
