(Aja Hood, KFYI News) Grand Canyon University is planning a 100 Acre Campus in the heart of the Gateway area in east Mesa.

The land purchased for the second campus is located in the new Eastmark development at the intersection of Ellsworth and Ray Road. GCU, a private Christian college located in west Phoenix, is the sixth college to announce plans to build in Mesa this year.

President and CEO Brian Mueller says they hope to increase their enrollment from the current 8,500 students to 15-20 thousand within the next four years.

GCU plans to start offering classes in the East valley in the fall of 2014 in an as-yet undetermined location, and hopes to open the Eastmark campus as early as 2015.
