(KFYI News) -- School supplies in Phoenix don't have to be expensive. Mike Sullivan is the local director of a debt-counseling service. He says shopping around is a great idea.
"There's such a difference between jurisdictions and municipal taxes," he said. "For example, if you're buying very basic items, you might be able to buy them in Sun City -- where the tax rate is half of what it is in, say, Glendale."
Sullivan also says check out what you already have, like scissors and rulers. Clipping coupons and gently-used school clothes are also good ideas.
