(Washington, DC) -- The level of public transportation ridership is at its highest since the 1950s.
In its annual report, the American Public Transportation Association says nationally last year more than ten and-a-half billion trips were taken on public transportation. The report points out that is the highest ridership since 1956. Representatives from the association are in Washington, DC this week highlighting the need for more investment in public transportation.
The association underlines in its report that strong investment in public transportation yields tens of thousands of new jobs nationwide and several billion dollars in local, state and federal tax revenue every year.
