(Undated)  --  The retailer Michaels is reporting a security breach involving 2.6 payment cards.

The arts and crafts chain also said Thursday about 400,000 payment cards for its subsidiary Aaron Brothers may have been breached by sophisticated malware.

This is the latest of several security attacks on major U.S. retailers following Target's massive credit card breach during last year's holiday shopping season.

Michaels says the malware is no longer a threat for its customers and that the hacked systems only contained payment card numbers and expiration dates.  The Michaels security attack occurred between May of 2013 and the end of January this year.
