Group Pushes Education Sales Tax Hike

A group of big-name business owners in Arizona are calling on legislators to put a proposed education sales tax hike on the 2020 ballot.

Plans call for an expansion of the current point-six-percent tax that generates 600-million dollars for Arizona schools.  The current tax expires in 2021 and the group wants the tax to increase to one-and-a-half-percent in order to boost the money going to schools to two-million dollars.

The group is calling on the Arizona legislature to refer the measure to the ballot but says if lawmakers fail to act there will be a push to gather enough signatures to get the issue in front of voters.
