Giffords Calls On Lawmakers To Act On Gun Control

Former Arizona Representative Gabrielle Giffords is calling on lawmakers to pass gun control legislation following the deadly shooting at a Florida school.

In a series of tweets following the shooting, Giffords said our leaders must find the courage to escape the confines of their politics and pursue the moral necessity of peace and safety.  She ended her tweets by calling on Congress to pass laws to "protect our children."

Giffords was shot in the head in 2011 by a gunman who killed six people and wounded several others.

At least 17 people were killed in a high school shooting yesterday in Parkland, Florida.
