Republican Lawmaker Drops Bill Aimed At Schools

A bill being introduced by Republican State Representative Kelly Townsend would fine schools if they close on days that are not pre-approved breaks and holidays.

House Bill 2017 includes exceptions for such things as riots, invasions, a plague of insects or bad weather.

The measure would apply to regular public schools and charter schools, which would be fined up to five-thousand dollars per violation.
