Law Enforcement Hiring Frenzy in Valley

Phoenix Police, the Arizona Department of Public Safety and the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office each have hundreds of job openings that need to be filled.  At a press conference Monday, DPS Director Frank Milstead rolled out a collaborative effort to spike the hiring of nearly 1,000 people.  "If you have a desire to be in law enforcement, you must be of sound mind and have great integrity."  Milstead says DPS has nearly 200 openings for troopers.  Meanwhile the Phoenix Police Department has close to 400 open positions ranging from officers to communications.  Chief Jeri Williams says the department wants to hire younger more diverse personnel.   "Someone who looks like you, who thinks like you, who processes information like you do.  That only makes us stronger" said Chief Williams at Monday's press conference.  The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office also wants to fill nearly 400 positions.  Police career fairs will be held Friday at the Phoenix Convention Center and Saturday at the NAU Valley Campus in Phoenix.
