McCain Questions New Army Mental Health Waiver

Senator John McCain wants answers about the Army's recent policy change allowing more people with mental and substance abuse problems to enlist.

The Arizona Republican and chair of the Armed Services Committee questioned Army general counsel James McPherson on Capitol Hill Tuesday.

McCain said he's ready to put a hold on nominations to Pentagon posts until he's satisfied with the Army's explanation.  Ranking Democrat Jack Reed of Rhode Island agreed.

As for the Army, it's arguing that the issue has been misinterpreted and all that's been done is a "simple administrative change" to policy.
