Maricopa County Sheriff Paul Penzone confirmed the immigration hold policy has not changed since the announcement two weeks ago. What has changed was process of how they will be released. ICE will now be able to enter the jails to pick up released inmates instead of having to take them into custody on the street.
Sheriff Penzone also shot down a Judicialwatch.org story saying average 40 people were being released every day. Penzone said that “89” were released and that ICE was notified about all but 13. The 13 were due to computer issues that both ICE and the Sheriff’s office are aware of.
