Former National Security Advisor Susan Rice ordered the creation of “detailed spreadsheets” of legal phone calls involving Donald Trump and his associates according to a report from The Daily Caller.
Former U.S. Attorney Joseph diGenova tells The Daily Caller that the catalogued conversations were "perfectly legal" and involved "no illegal activity" by Trump associates or any of the people that they were speaking with.
The Daily Caller reports:
“What was produced by the intelligence community at the request of Ms. Rice were detailed spreadsheets of intercepted phone calls with unmasked Trump associates in perfectly legal conversations with individuals,” diGenova told The Daily Caller News Foundation Investigative Group Monday.
“The overheard conversations involved no illegal activity by anybody of the Trump associates, or anyone they were speaking with,” diGenova said. “In short, the only apparent illegal activity was the unmasking of the people in the calls.”
Rice's request came one year before the 2016 election, according to the report.
The latest news comes one day after Bloomberg's Eli Lake and Fox News reported that Rice had repeatedly sought the names of Trump associates in intel, indicating that she was the source of the "unmasking" of Trump associates.
According to Fox News, the unmasked names of Trump aides were then distributed to top Obama officials including Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and CIA Director John Brennan.
