House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) who has lead the investigation of Russian meddling in the 2016 election will temporarily step aside.
The Daily Beast is reporting that Rep. Nunes is stepping aside because he is under investigation from the House Ethics Committee for disclosing intelligence.
Rep. Devin Nunes said Thursday he is stepping aside as chairman of the House intelligence committee because he is under investigation by the House Ethics Committee for allegedly disclosing intelligence without proper authorization.
"The charges are entirely false and politically motivated, and are being leveled just as the American people are beginning to learn the truth about the improper unmasking of the identities of U.S. citizens and other abuses of power," Nunes said in a statement, adding that the allegations against him are "baseless."
Arizona Sen. John McCain has been a critic of Rep. Nunes and his handling of the investigation. Sen McCain recently said that Nunes hurt any chance of having a bipartisan look into the matter.
"If we’re really going to get to the bottom of these things, it’s got to be done in a bipartisan fashion. And as far as I could tell, Congressman Nunes killed that,"
