Mike Broomhead talks with Rep Andy Biggs who has called for the resignation of the VA President David Shulkin and wrote the following letter to President Trump.
Dear President Trump,
Serving in the U.S. Armed Forces presents challenges large and small – time away from family and friends, physical and emotional well-being, and for some, the ultimate sacrifice. In exchange, our nation is committed to providing our veterans and their families the highest quality care.
Unfortunately, I remain concerned with the failed leadership at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Good-faith efforts have been made by your Administration and Congress to reform the VA; however, I am afraid that we are still falling short in fulfilling our promises. I read the recent VA Inspector General’s report and the findings solidify my concerns with Secretary Shulkin’s ability to lead the VA.
Secretary Shulkin has refused to engage with me to address inefficiencies occurring at the Phoenix VA, which was ground zero for the scandal that shed light on the VA’s life-threatening bureaucracy. Several VA bureaucrats and employees have shamelessly disregarded their obligations to help our veterans, leading to a culture of incompetency and complacency. The Secretary has had over a year to fix these persistent problems, yet progress results remain stagnant. Our veterans and VA employees need to be confident that the VA is headed in the right direction and the latest developments are detrimental to that confidence.
Mr. President, I want to help you fulfill the promises we made to our veterans. The first step is for Secretary Shulkin to resign.
