Arizona Governor Doug Ducey joins the Mike Broomhead Show to talk about the looming teacher walkout this week. Arizona Educators United voted last week to walk out of schools on Thursday April 26th to force the legislature to meet their demands on education in Arizona. Governor Doug Ducey had already proposed a 20% raise for teachers with his #20x20x20 plan. The #redfored movement made public statements that they didn’t believe the Governor’s effort for raises and demanded they meet with him before they would call off their threat to walkout of Arizona schools. The Governor told The Mike Broomhead Show that he believes we will see something from the Legislature soon.
He says there should be “100% support” to get teachers a 20% raise by 2020. The Governor says our teachers are getting results inside the classrooms and says it’s time they we “demonstrate their value with this reward.”
The Governor also said that the money would come from a growing economy and that “we are not shifty dollars around “ or “cutting anyone.”
The Governor doesn’t understand why the leadership of the #redfored movement would strike when the Governor agrees with them on pay raises and dollars for the classroom.
