Democratic Sen. Kamala Harris was ready to dress down Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen over the fact she felt the Secretary was being directed to separate illegal aliens from their children when they are caught entering the country together. Nielsen in her testimony wasn't going to take it. She disagreed with the notion she was directed to do this. “My decision has been that anyone who breaks the law will be prosecuted,” she said. “If you’re a parent or you’re a single person or you happen to have a family, if you cross between the ports of entry, we will refer you for prosecution. You’ve broken U.S. law.”
Harris moved on to here next talking point about the policy of detaining parents, causing separation from their children, something that causes her much concern. Nielsen then shot that down telling Sen. Harris that U.S. citizen parents are separated every day in the United States when those parents are arrested saying it's a “Just as we do in the United States every day.”
