Former FBI general counsel James Baker said on the Yahoo podcast "Skullduggery" that the FBi was very worried about the optics of the President and the investigation in to the Russian dossier.
"We were quite worried about the Hoover analogies, and we were determined not to have such a disaster happen on our watch,” Baker said, hoping to convey to the incoming president that they did not want to continue the "legacy" of Hoover's blackmailing.
Baker says that the FBI was aware of the dossier and considered it serious. The FBI wanted to find out if it was true , but the agency didn't take it as "gospel." The FBI also informed the courts on how credible the document was and they there may be political motives behind it.
Baker also said that he didn't believe that there is any evidence that Trump was an asset of the Russians. He believed that if there were any evidence it would have already come out and be made public.
