In her weekly press briefing, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi talked about hosting a session for members of Congress after the US Capitol breach two weeks ago to help deal with their trauma. Understandably so, until she gets to the last type of trauma.
Pelosi included, 'physical trauma, psychological trauma, and vicarious trauma.'
Vicarious trauma (VT) and Secondary Traumatic Stress (STS) are frequently used interchangeably to refer to the indirect trauma that can occur when we are exposed to difficult or disturbing images and stories second-hand.
In other words members of Congress who weren't inside the Capitol when it was breached want to be able to talk about how traumatizing it was in front of TV cameras.
