Meet Sheldon.
Sheldon is a U.S. Senator from Rhode Island. He and his staff consider him to be in the progressive crowd. There is one problem. Senator Whitehouse belongs to Bailey's Beach Club in Newport. Bailey's Beach Club is an all-white private club.
He was confronted about this issue. Watch here as Sheldon tries to dance around this issue.
Senator Whitehouse's response to belonging to the club, 'it's a long tradition in Rhode Island and there are many of them and I think we just need to work our way through the issues, thank you.'
Oh. So the long-tradition of being racist still allows a progressive to be a part of it.

The Senator has spoken out about the injustice of systematic racism in America. On June 4, 2020, after the deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor Whitehouse said in a statement, 'We hear the voices of the peaceful protestors who have marched. We can and must do better to root out systemic racism in its many forms.'
Whitehouse must have heard those voices from the cigar lounge in his all white-club.
