Being in the United States illegally isn't enough to get you apprehended and/or deported. Not anymore.
Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is only going to make the crisis even worse at the US/Mexico border where over one million people have been apprehended since January. Mayorkas wrote, "Are we going to spend the time apprehending and removing the farmworker who is breaking his or her back to pick fruit that we all put on our tables? Because if we pursue that individual, we will not be spending those same resources on somebody who does, in fact, threaten our safety. And that is what this is about."
Mayorkas added, "the overriding question is whether the noncitizen poses a current threat to public safety."
What's the message to the rest of the world? The same as Joe Biden's message prior to becoming president, 'immediately surge to the border.' What's the downside of entering this country illegally? Nothing, according to the Department that is supposed to protect the borders.
This is an administration that has surrendered to the Taliban in Afghanistan and now they are surrendering the sovereignty of the United States border to every other country on Earth. This is the height of incompetence, creating crises instead of solving problems.
Is this what 'Build Back Better' means?
