The Arizona Education Association announced on Thursday that the state's teachers have voted to walkout from schools. Leaders in the #RedfoEd movement said the walkout is expected to begin on Thursday 4/26.
Joe Thomas, president of the AEA, said 78 percent of teachers voted in favor of a walkout. Over 57,000 teachers voted.
Gov. Doug Ducey last week proposed a plan that would give teachers a 20 percent pay raise by 2020.
Members of the #RedforEd movement say the governor's plan doesn't address other demands, including pay increases for support staff and a return of school funding to pre-recession spending levels.
Many local area school boards have come out with public support for #RedForEd.
Arizona Governor Doug Ducey responded to the vote on twitter.
