What's a Whiskey Pod?

They look like Tide Pods. But, they have whiskey in them. The Glenlivet is introducing these whiskey pods and people are alarmed.

Here's how they work. You simply put the whiskey from the 195-year old Scotch distillery in your mouth, take a bite and you have your Scotch. The pod? You eat it. It's made from seaweed. Yup. We here at The Brewmance are sure the Scotch whiskey totally overpowers the seaweed.

Each pod contains about one-and-a-half tablespoons of whiskey.

Miriam Eceolaza, director of The Glenlivet, writing, "as a brand that celebrates originality, we are always looking to break the conventions that have determined how single malt Scotch has historically been enjoyed. The Glenlivet Capsule Collection does exactly that, and we’re excited to see how people react when they try our glassless cocktails.”

Glassless cocktails huh?

Naturally, like everything else, the most overused word in media is being used liberally. From the USA Today, "A whisky brand is stirring up controversy with its new Capsule Collection." The Chicago Sun Times: "The Glenlivet stirs up controversy..." Business Insider: "Scotch whiskey company Glenlivet seems to have launched an already controversial new product: "The Capsule Collection."

We love controversy. Well, the media loves the word anyways.

Here's why this isn't "controversial." The Glenlivet whiskey pod is only available at one bar in London this week because it's their cocktail week. Come on people.
