Trump's Indictment Explained

President Trump faces 34 felony charges in New York City.

In 2016 Trump's then attorney Michael Cohen made a $130,000 payment to Stormy Daniels to buy her silence from saying she had an affair with Trump.

Trump then paid Cohen $180,000 to reimburse him. Trump also gave him a $60,000 bonus. These payments were broken down into 11 installments and were labeled legal services in internal business documents. What the Manhattan district attorney has done is filed one overcall falsifying business records account and then 3 counts each for the 11 separate payments Trump made to Cohen.

Each payment brings with it a charge for the payment, the invoice, and the signed check. That's why there is 34 charges.
