Deadly Officer Involved Shooting On I-10

A man is dead following an officer-involved shooting that closed Interstate 10 west of Phoenix for several hours.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety says the first of several shootings happened along I-10 near milepost 57 at 1 a.m. when a suspect was pulled over by a trooper because of a suspended license plate, and a passenger in the car got out with a semi-automatic weapon and began firing at the trooper.

The trooper took cover and returned fire. The trooper was not injured.

The driver of the vehicle was then taken into custody by the trooper, but the passenger fled the scene in the vehicle. The suspect then began firing at another trooper near milepost 11.

From there he went into a truck stop where he broke a window on a semi truck, beat up the driver, then stole the semi at gunpoint and led police on a chase that ended in Quartzsite.  Where the gunman was killed.

DPS, Border Patrol and La Paz County Sheriff's deputies all firing their weapons at some point during the incident.  No officers or deputies were injured.
