The Department of Public Safety still thinks Leslie Merritt, Jr. is the suspected freeway shooter.
DPS Director Frank Milstead telling ABC 15 he's still their guy adding 'the county attorney has the case and they will still continue to work through it and decide whether or not he will ever be prosecuted.'
Merritt was arrested after a series of shootings along Valley freeways that started two years ago. He spent months in jail before being freed in April of last year. All charges related to the shootings against Merritt have been dropped. He's now seeking suing the state for millions in a malicious prosecution lawsuit.
