A sixth notice of claim connected to the ongoing hazing scandal at Hamilton High School in Chandler is seeking $10 million. Six victims have come forward saying that they were sexually assaulted by members of the Hamilton football team between 2015 and 2017.
Combined with five other notices of claim against the Chandler Unified School District, the total amount being sought by families of victims is $44 million. The latest claim criticizes the district for hiring certain coaches and failing to monitor them.
Since Chandler Unified School District is a government entity notice of claims must be considered before a lawsuit can be filed.
The victim in the latest claim alleges that he was sexually assaulted in January of 2017. The attorney representing him and his family says the incident was recorded on a cell phone and shared on social media.
Chandler Police have recommended charges against former head football coach Steve Belles, principal Ken James and the school's athletic director. The Maricopa County Attorney's Office is yet to act on the recommendation.
