Curb Rising Temperatures With Pavement?

They were built for transportation, but the design of the Valley's freeway system could have a positive impact on the environment. The pavement used to build the ring of freeways was intended to reduce noise and increase durability. Cronkite News reports that adding melted rubber to liquid asphalt can slow the heat island effect.  That is the conclusion of both an Arizona State University professor and the Arizona Department of Transportation in two independent studies.
