Arizona Sending Firefighters to California Wildfire

Wine Country Wildfires

(KFYI News) – Arizona is one of several western states being asked to send firefighting resources to northern California as the battle against numerous wildfires there ramps up.

Tiffany Davila, a public affairs officer for the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management, says California authorities have asked the agency to coordinate the sending of 300-400 firefighters and 100 fire engines to the effort.

Davila says our state will send what it can, but that sending such a large amount of resources could conceivably affect the ability to effectively fight fires in our state.  She points out that Arizona's wildfire season is not yet over.

The firefighters and equipment that go to California could include some of the state's own resources as well as those of various local fire departments throughout the state.
