Jury selection begins today in the murder trial of a former Mesa police officer. Phillip Brailsford is accused of second-degree murder for allegedly shooting an unarmed man five times at a Mesa hotel last year.
Police reports indicate the victim was on his knees pleading for his life when he was killed. Brailsford was fired from the Mesa Police Department in March of 2016, shortly after prosecutors charged him. Brailsford maintains the shooting was justified to protect himself and others.
Unedited body-cam video is expected to be seen for the first time during the trail.
