Opening Statements Delayed In Cop Trial

Opening statements in the murder trial of a former Valley cop were postponed Wednesday.  Former Mesa Police Officer Philip Brailsford is accused of shooting an unarmed man five times in a hotel room last year while responding to a call.  Police say the victim was on his knees pleading "please don't shoot me" when Officer Brailsford opened fire.  Brailsford maintains the shooting was justified to protect himself and others.  The judge dismissed the jury after lunch recess.  He said he needed more time to decide whether or not to allow the full body cam video of the incident to be shown in court.  The defense maintains it would harm their case by tainting the jury.  The prosecution says the jury is already seated and therefore the defense claim is invalid.  Court will resume Thursday morning.
