Opening statements brought body-cam video into the courtroom as the murder trial of a former cop got underway in Phoenix. Jurors watched the video of former police officer Philip Brailsford kill a man. Daniel Shaver was seen sobbing, face down on the floor, begging not to be shot. The ex-cop is charged with second degree murder for the January 2016 shooting. He said he acted in self-defense as Shaver reached for his waistband. The prosecution says it appeared Shaver was pulling up his shorts which had fallen as he crawled toward the officers.
Shaver’s parents Norma and Grady Shaver left the courtroom while the video was shown. His widow, Laney Sweet, sobbed as the courtroom heard the shots ring out.
