(Phoenix, AZ)  The Phoenix Public Library and the new owners of Park Central Mall announce that temporary library services will soon be available in an almost 30,000 square foot space at central Phoenix’s iconic Park Central Mall.

“This temporary location at Park Central is a welcome addition for our residents as our centerpiece library Burton Barr undergoes repairs,” said Mayor Greg Stanton. “As the new Park Central location will quickly show, our Phoenix Public Libraries are much more than libraries. They are vital and bustling gathering places where young people, entrepreneurs and job seekers can get mentoring and tools to succeed.”

Located along the light rail and approximately 2 miles from the temporarily closed Burton Barr Central Library, “Phoenix Public Library @ Park Central” will be an ideal location in which residents in central Phoenix will be able to access the basic library services they rely upon. With initial plans to be open seven days a week, families will be able to attend early literacy programming such as Storytimes, teens will be able to gather after school for homework help and coding programs, those relying upon the library for access to a computer and the internet will be able to access the internet - all of this in addition to a range of library materials (books, CDs, magazines, DVDs, etc.) for all ages available for check out.

“This temporary relocation of the Burton Barr Central Library at Park Central can affectionately be referred to as a ‘pop up’ library,” said Vice Mayor Laura Pastor. “It will allow for the uninterrupted provision of much-needed programs and services in the central core that citizens have come to rely upon and expect. The continued availability of library resources for the public until Burton Barr reopens next year is of vital importance.”
