Phoenix Mayor Named A Top U.S. Public Official

The Mayor of Phoenix is named one of the top U.S. public officials of the year.  Governing Magazine says it chose Greg Stanton because of several of his accomplishments as mayor of Phoenix.

The government periodical cites Stanton's work to improve the city's environmental sustainability and his 35-year transportation plan that will add 42 miles of light rail, more than 1,000 miles of bike lanes, 135 miles of sidewalks and expanded bus service.

The magazine also gave Stanton kuddos for being one of the first U.S. mayors to announce his city would continue to honor the Paris Climate Agreement after President Trump pulled the U.S. out of the accord.

Stanton is among nine government leaders to make the list in 2017.
