Those who were illegally detained over a 17-month period by Maricopa County Sheriff immigration patrols are now entitled to compensation.
Latinos illegally detained while then Sheriff, Joe Arpaio, disobeyed a court order to stop the patrols, will be payed five hundred dollars for the first hour and 35-dollars for each additional 20-minute increment they were held. Anyone detained can also seek money for lost wages and emotional destress.
The compensation stems from a racial profiling suit filed over a decade ago that will cost taxpayers nearly 92-million by next summer.
