Glendale City Council Scraps Light Rail Plan

The Glendale City Council is scrapping a plan to extend the light rail to downtown Glendale.

Last year, the City Council decided to look into the feasibility of a seven-mile light rail route connecting the line to downtown.

Since that vote, one council member who supported the plan was ousted in the 2016 election and another switched their vote to no.  The plan originally called for the project to be completed by 2026.

Valley Metro had estimated that the extension to downtown Glendale would have cost nearly 130-million dollars a mile.
