Apache Junction Coach Resigns After Alligations

A longtime Apache Junction High School football coach is stepping down after being accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student.

Richard Milligan started teaching and coaching at the school back in 1985, but recently the mother of a 16-year old boy filed a protective order against him.  The mother says Milligan started giving the boy a ride home after school, and then started buying him gifts and texting her son repeatedly.

Milligan tells the "Arizona Republic" that he viewed the boy as a son, and was crushed when he was notified about the allegations.

A judge said this week that a decision about the protective order will be made in 30 days.
