City Sets New Goal To Cut Emissions

The Phoenix City Council has unanimously approved a new goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30 percent below 2012 levels by 2025.

That keeps Phoenix on track to achieve an 80 percent greenhouse gas emissions reduction by 2050.  That would exceed the requirements of the Paris Climate Accord.

The federal government has withdrawn from the accord, but Mayor Greg Stanton says Phoenix remains committed to the agreement's goals.

The City's long-term goal is to become carbon neutral.
