Animal Shelter Closing Facing Opposition

Thousands of folks want to help keep Maricopa County's animal shelter in Mesa open.

An animal-welfare advocate started a petition on Monday and so far over eight thousand people have signed it.  The county recently announced it may close the Mesa shelter by 2019 because it is overcrowded and they simply don't have the room to expand being tucked in-between Loop 101 and the 202.

The petition states that by closing the facility, folks in the East Valley will not adopt as many pets because they have to drive further to the county's south Phoenix shelter.
