Transparency Wins The Day

A proposal that would hide the identities of political donors is being withdrawn in favor of transparency.  State Senator John Kavanaugh called it a common sense election law.  Democrats were united in opposition and even opponents within his own Republican party advised Kavanaugh against pursuing it.  Under the measure, political and candidate committees would have doubled the threshold at which they would be required to report the names of donors.  Currently if a contribution is $50 or higher the donor information must be reported to the state.
