A state lawmaker introduced a bill Monday to keep sexually explicit messages involving a House member secret. House Majority Whip Kelly Townsend wants to balance the public's right-to-know with privacy concerns. At issue, sexually explicit messages of Representative Michelle Ugenti-Rita that were sent by a House staffer, Brian Townsend. Townsend and Ugenti-Rita are now engaged. As part of the sexual harassment investigation at the House of Representatives, Townsend admitting sending the messages. Townsend's bill moves to keep explicit content confidential if a state lawmaker is involved in a sexual harassment investigation. The bills would not allow anyone outside of investigators to see the photos.
