NTSB Begins Investigation In Tempe

(Tempe, AZ)  -- Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board are in Tempe and have begun investigating the fatal crash between a self-driving Uber and a pedestrian Sunday night.  The NTSB says their investigation will focus on the operating condition of the vehicle, driver interaction with the vehicle and opportunities for the vehicle or driver to detect the pedestrian.  

Investigators have begun examining the Volvo XC90 that hit the pedestrian and have visited the crash site.  They'll also be looking at video from the vehicle's dash cam that recorded the crash. Investigators will also be meeting with representatives from the Tempe Police Department, Uber, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
