New Ordinance Aims To Crack Down On Data Breaches

Phoenix is fighting back against data breaches and holding companies responsible.  A new law forces companies to do a better job and keeping information safe.

The civil penalty was about ten-grand per breach prior to the law, but now companies in the state can face a fine of up to 500-thousand dollars.

The law has also created a deadline for businesses as to when they need to notify consumers that their information has been compromised.

The law goes into effect in August.
