(Mesa, AZ) -- A man is under arrest for allegedly stealing an ambulance in Mesa so he wouldn't have to walk home in the heat. Thirty-seven-year-old Todd Shell had just been released yesterday from Banner Desert Hospital for a heat-related issue. He told police he saw an ambulance running outside and decided to borrow it. Officers eventually stopped Shell and the ambulance near Val Vista and University. The officers say Shell told them he was driving home to get money so he could buy a sandwich. He said he planned on returning the ambulance when he was done. He's charged with unlawful use of means of transportation and fleeing from law enforcement.
