Some hikers continue to hit the trail despite our record heat. First responders have rescued a half dozen hikers over the last few days.
But instead of closing down trails in extreme heat Phoenix City officials are opening the popular spots for longer periods of time.
Gregg Bach with Parks and Recreation said the idea is to get hikers out early in the morning or late in the evening when it's not so hot.
It's recommended once half your water is gone, it's time to head back off the trail.
