Lawsuits Claims Excessive Force, Unlawful Arrest

An 84-year-old woman is suing the city of Mesa.  Virginia Archer claims two Mesa police officers used excessive force and unlawfully arrested her during a welfare check on her grandson.

The Arizona Republic reports the suit was filed Thursday morning in U.S. District Court in Phoenix.  The suit alleges that in February, Mesa police officers David Grimm and Christopher Orr violated Archer's civil rights and caused her physical and emotional harm.

The suit seeks an unspecified amount for punitive and compensatory damages and attorney's fees.
