Mesa PD Use Of Force Case Will Not Move Forward

The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office has completed its review of a use of an allegation of excessive force used by the Mesa Police Department on a 15-year-old armed robbery suspect.  On May 16th of this year two officers were caught on body-cam video roughing up the teen after he was already handcuffed. Investigators have concluded that the suspect was moving around while officer were trying to search him for a missing weapon.  Arizona law permits the use of reasonable force to make an arrest.  The Attorney's office has concluded that in this case, a conviction for aggravated assault would be unlikely, so it will not move ahead with any charges against the two officers or the Mesa police department.
