Sen. John McCain Has Passed.

Arizona Senator John McCain is dead at the age of 81.  A retired Navy captain and former POW during the Vietnam War, McCain served two terms in the U.S. House before being elected to the Senate in 1986.

He ran for president against Barack Obama in 2008, later losing the election.  A moderate conservative, McCain still often clashed with the Obama administration on foreign policy matters.  He became chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee in 2015.

He had a series of health setbacks in recent years, including a diagnosis of brain cancer in July of 2017.  McCain entered Walter Reed Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland the week of December 10th for what his office called treatment for the side effects of his chemotherapy.  He spent the rest of his days as senator at his ranch near Sedona, Arizona.

McCain is survived by wife Cindy; daughter Meghan; son John McCain the Fourth; and three children from his previous marriage.
