(El Mirage, AZ) -- Authorities say a 17-year-old murder in the west valley has been solved using new technology. Frank Mendoza was arrested in California this week for the 2001 murder of Richard Lucero in El Mirage. Police conducting a welfare check found Lucero dead in his home. A homicide investigation eventually went cold. DPS detectives using new technology discovered latent prints at the murder scene and linked them to Mendoza through modern DNA testing. DPS and Fresno detectives arrested Mendoza at his Fresno home Monday. He's expected to be extradited to Arizona to face murder charges.
