Fake Grass Coming To Chase Field

Artificial turf is coming to Chase Field.  The Arizona Diamondbacks have announced plans to install an artificial grass field in time for Opening Day 2019.

In a statement, D-Backs President Derrick Hall says growing natural grass in the desert -- and inside the stadium -- is a challenge, and the team has been looking into alternatives for years.  He says artificial turf will allow the team to keep the roof closed during the summer months, which will be more comfortable for fans.

New technology will allow the field to look as it always has and perform like a natural surface.  The new "Batting a Thousand Natural Turf" will be installed in partnership with Shaw Sports Turf, a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway.
