Health Officials Warn About Zika Threat

Arizona residents are being warned about a sharp increase in Zika cases in Sonora, Mexico.  Pregnant women, and those who are trying to become pregnant are being urged to avoid travel to Sonora.

Dr. Rebecca Sunenshine of the Maricopa County Department of Public Health says if those woman cannot avoid traveling there, they should take precautions and know the risks.  She says Zika is transmitted by infected mosquitoes, so anyone traveling to Sonora should wear insect repellent, as well as long sleeves and long pants, and take other precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
